I started out in September 2016 with a class on Web Publication and Design. Throughout the semester, my class learned the principals of good web design. As a culmination of these efforts, our final assignment was to build a website of our own using HTML!
Let me tell you, I now completely understand why people use a web host. At the time I used 1and1.com. The HTML takes a lot of practice to really get used to, and it can be hard for the average person to follow all the rules. For a small business owner or a person at home, there is a huge advantage to having a website they can manage themselves, and not have to hire someone every time they want to update something.
